Opener Suggestion...

Hi everyone, and welcome to tonight’s WhatsApp live chat which is all about a positive mindset. We have XX, YY, and ZZ here with you this evening.

Sometimes we can talk to ourselves in such a negative way, and we accept this from ourselves when we wouldn’t accept it from someone else! Thoughts are not facts - tonight we will be exploring ways to recognise negative thoughts and how we can reframe them to be more helpful.

You’re very welcome to join in whether you’re new to the group, have been here for a while, or have mostly been reading along and now feel ready to say hello.

Please do support each other too, we’re all together in this and you bring so much by sharing your experiences and supporting each other.

Possible Questions to ask during the chat...

Who has heard of a 'growth mindset' before? If you have, what do you know about it?

It’s totally normal to have both positive and negative thoughts throughout the day. Negative thoughts can be a way to protect yourself when faced with difficult situations. Sometimes negative thoughts might feel overwhelming though and it can feel like you are ‘going down the rabbit hole’.

Thinking of a recent thought you have had, was it a helpful or unhelpful one? What ways can you recognise this in the moment to help slow them down?

Thinking about a growth mindset, how could you flip that thought into a growth thought?

This is like taking a negative thought and flipping it to say, ‘what if’? What could you say to yourself?

Ideas 'What can I try doing differently?

‘What is this teaching me?

'If I keep trying, I can do this’

What words of encouragement would you give to a friend?

Now you know a little more about what a growth mindset, what effect do you think it could have on your mental wellbeing?

No matter how small, what is one win you've had today? Even if it's as simple as putting your socks on the right feet!!
